So my best friend and co-blogger Adam and I both share a favorite book, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Yes you may have heard of it, may have even read it, but for Adam and I it has been... a mantra? A religion? I don't know, something to like believe in? I know that there are other fans out there but really and truly it has always felt like it's only Ad and I when it comes to this one book. We've passed the book back and forth to eachother over the years, ending up with the original copies we've bought or brand-new ones. A couple years ago Ad bought me a rare signed copy by the author Stephen Chbosky (that one I'm not giving up). So I've decided to pick up my ragged copy of Perks again and in honor of this occasion wanted to post "Charlie's" favorite book list- I'm thinking I'll add these to my up-and-coming to read booklist- peruse...
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (read it)
This Side of Paradise by F. Scott Fitzgerald (read it)
Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie (read it)
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald (read it)
A Separate Peace by John Knowles (read it)
The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger (read it)
On the Road by Jack Kerouac (read it)
Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs - started it and now inspired to finish!
Walden by Henry David Thoreau
Hamlet by William Shakespeare (read it)
The Stranger by Albert Camus
The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand
So there you have it- I guess I'm only adding 4 books but 4 books none the less. In addition I'm adding these to my "to listen" playlist:
"Asleep" by The Smiths
"Vapour Trail" by Ride
"Scarborough Fair", a traditional folk song popularized by Simon and Garfunkel
"A Whiter Shade of Pale" by Procol Harum
"Time of No Reply" by Nick Drake
"Dear Prudence" by The Beatles
"Gypsy" by Suzanne Vega
"Nights in White Satin" by The Moody Blues
"Daydream" by The Smashing Pumpkins
"Dusk" by Genesis
"MLK" by U2
"Blackbird" by The Beatles
"Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac
"Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana
"Another Brick in the Wall Pt. II" by Pink Floyd
"Something" by The Beatles
"School's Out" by Alice Cooper
"Autumn Leaves" by Nat King Cole
"Broken Wings" by Mr. Mister[4]
Many of these I've heard, love, and already have but I think I'm going to make a specific Perks playlist to play them one right after another.
Thoughts? Memories that belong here? Anything else Perks related you think I should add/try out?
And in this moment we were infinite.
